About the Utilities Council of IFMA

The Utilities Council is one of the Councils of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).  Our primary purpose is to share and develop knowledge among members to facilitate best in class performance, yield high customer satisfaction ratings, competitive cost structure, and promote environmental stewardship for utilities which include electric, gas, water, and telecommunications companies.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Utilities Council is to provide a medium for advancement of the objectives of the Association for facility management personnel in the utilities industry.

  1. The operation of the Council will be in support of this mission.
  2. The Council expressly prohibits any discussion of or information sharing related to pricing.
  3. The Council restricts membership to those individuals classified as Professional members as established by the Association’s Board of Directors.

Activities and Events

Utilities Council members meet each year in the spring and in the fall just before World Workplace.  Meetings typically take place over a two day period on a Sunday and Monday.  The location of our spring meeting varies and the location of our fall meeting is typically in or near the same city as World Workplace.

We also host the Doug Underwood/Utilities Council of IFMA Golf Tournament every year on the Tuesday preceding World Workplace.  The golf tournament is a fundraising event with the proceeds funding scholarships for students majoring in a facilities management related field.  In 2010 the Utilities Council awarded $20,000 in scholarships to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the golf tournament.
